Description (2009)

Established in 1972 as the first Korean scholarly journal published in English in the field of social sciences, Development and Society remains a leading voice for analysis and research in development studies and social science in general.

Ever since it started as Bulletin of the Population and Development Studies Center (1972-1989), and renewed as Korea Journal of Population and Development (1990-1997), many papers were published in its field.

The journal presents path breaking work from all areas of social science, with an emphasis on East Asian experience and empirical analysis. Development and Society strives to speak to the general social science reader and is open to scientifically informed contributions from all related areas including sociology, anthropology, economics, education, history, and political science. Development and Society prizes research that offers new ways of understanding the social; for example, a project currently under way to compile a special issue organized around social quality.

Although Development and Society publishes a limited number of papers, it provides a valuable space for discussion from diverse parts of the world, including Asia, Europe, America, and other parts of the world, making the journal a center for exchange and debate "behind" the printed page and contributing to the robustness of social science research in general.

Development and Society is the official journal of the Institute for Social Development and Policy Research, Seoul National University. The Journal, published twice a year, and we welcome articles of high quality.
